TIP#45: How to Manage Time for Workout With No Distraction

Does your New Year’s resolution always have ‘start working out regularly’ on it but you can never end up being consistent enough? We’ve been there. One of the most common reasons is mismanagement of time. In this late stage capitalist society finding time for non-work related things can be a challenge. But don’t worry! We’ve got some tips to help you manage time to get a workout in without any distractions.

Have a Specific Room

Research shows that having designated spots for certain things helps form associations in our minds. Just like having a workspace helps you get in the right state of mind so will having a workout space. It does not have to be an entire gym; it can just be a space large enough to place your exercise mat that also affords you privacy. A temperature regulated space is a bonus! All your equipment- if you use any- should already be in this room so that no time is wasted.

Set Sustainable Goals

Before you jump into your workout and deplete all your motivation in the first two days, you should think of a realistic goal. Do you want to safely reduce weight, gain strength, increase stamina or just generally stay in good health? Your workout routine will depend on what you want to achieve and it will help you figure out how much time you need to set aside in a day. Remember to also include recovery days every week and perhaps invest in your choice of a workout recovery tool. A foam roller comes in very handy.

Create a Motivating Environment

Feel free to put up motivational quotes or posters to keep you going or some nice speakers to blast your workout playlist from. Ideally, you should keep your phone away to minimize distractions. But if you do use some apps to help you along then turn on your do not disturb option and avoid seeing any messages that will spike your curiosity and interrupt your workout. An alternative to apps is noting down your progress in a notebook- the old fashioned way! If you listen to loud music while working out but you don’t want to miss any deliveries, just bring a Sadotech Model C with you and set it to the highest volume. It is loud and distinct. You won’t miss it.

Select the Right Time

We all have different times of the day when we are at our peak performance. Some people have more energy in the mornings but some only start to wake up around noon. Find out what time of the day you have the most energy and schedule some time for your workout then. Set a reminder on your phone so that you never forget. Remember that it is not the number of hours you put in that matters but the fact that you do even a little everyday that will ultimately amount to a lot. Keep going!
